Reigning Sabalenka Secures Back-to-Back WTA Player of the Year Honors.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second consecutive season.
The twenty-seven-year-old won four titles – the most on tour – including successfully defending the US Open this past September versus Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Year of High Performance
Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka played in a tour-best nine finals, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The Belarusian also claimed victory at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the entire year as the top-ranked player, concluding 2025 on top of the rankings for a second successive year.
This past summer, she achieved the status of being the first player to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Historic Statistics
Sabalenka concluded the season with a sixty-three to twelve win-loss record, and picked up a record £11m in prize money.
She earned almost 80% of the votes cast by international tennis media.
Later this month, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "help bring women's tennis to a higher level".
Other WTA Award Recipients
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, was voted after taking 13-month break after the birth of her daughter and making her comeback to the sport earlier this season.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko picked up the award after beginning the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and rising to the eighteenth spot.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after winning their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after advancing to five championship matches.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz won three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third consecutive time.
