Jennifer Lawrence Expresses Mentioning Trump Would ‘Add Fuel to a Fire’ That’s Ripping the Country Apart
Lawrence has expressed that she finds it inappropriate fitting to voice opinions regarding the Trump presidency, fearing it could exacerbate polarizing arguments and deepen rifts across the nation.
‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Notes Lawrence
During a discussion, the Oscar winner shared, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I thought I was running around in a panicked state. But experience has shown, election after election, Hollywood stars fail to influence at all on electoral choices.”
She continued, “What’s the point? I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to heighten conflict that’s ripping the country apart.”
Political Evolution
Jennifer Lawrence has previously been open about backing conservative and liberal presidential nominees in past elections. Growing up with a right-leaning family in Kentucky, she voted for the Republican nominee in the 2008 election before joining the left-leaning politics and stating she understood during Obama’s administration that voting Republican was opposing her personal freedoms as a woman.
Earlier Remarks
Earlier in her career, she remarked that Donald Trump’s election might signal “the end of the world” and endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 election. During the most recent election, she lent her support to Kamala Harris, “since I think she’s an amazing candidate and I trust that she will do whatever she can to protect abortion access.”
Hollywood’s Stance
Jennifer Lawrence was supported by numerous celebrities in her disapproval of Trump as a presidential contender, but the limited influence public figures have over the public choices was underscored by his election win.
“The second term appears changed,” noted she regarding his administration. “Because he made his plans clear. We understood his record for his first term. He was very clear. And voters made that decision.”
Current Projects
Lawrence is discussing Die, My Love, director Lynne Ramsay’s drama in which she plays a recent parent who deals with her psychological well-being in a remote area. At a press conference for the project in the film festival, she commented on Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s horrifying. What’s taking place is nothing short of a humanitarian crisis and it’s horrible.”
Wider Issues
The actress elaborated by expressing that she was disheartened by “the hostility in the conversations of American politics at present and how that is going to be normalised to the kids today. It’s going to be typical to them that leaders are untruthful.”
She attempted to refocus outrage about the situation to decision-makers rather than entertainers. “Keep attention on who is responsible,” she advised, in what many took to be a nod to the then-recent pledge signed by more than 4,000 arts community members to avoid specific industry bodies.
Individual Insights
Lawrence, who earned critical acclaim at a young age for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, is receiving praise for her work in the new film. Even though the director has denied the narrative being understood as one of postpartum depression and psychological distress, Lawrence said that she did relate to elements of her character’s journey after the arrival of her youngest child, not long after filming concluded.
“There was concern regarding my baby,” she said, “just picturing every worst-case scenario, and then second-guessing everything that I was trying. I was already in therapy, but I started taking a drug called that medicine and I took it for a short period and it really helped.”
Film Challenges
The actor also mentioned regarding the empowering aspect of completing nude scenes in the project while she was in pregnancy and limited physically.
“It’s refreshing,” she commented, of being forced to set aside self-consciousness. “Truly, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, What technically are the differences between my work and that profession? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
