Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Player Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the league office.
The team did not mention Rice by name in their announcement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete directly, posted a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Currently Not on File
No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have occurred.
Player's Recent Legal Issues
Rice was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left multiple people injured. He was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
Statistically, Rice concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
