A Heap of Anime Updates Arrived During the Festive Season

The Christmas holidays provide a wealth of pursuits much better than checking the latest news: discovering surprises, feasting on holiday treats, and harnessing deep breathing to refrain from yelling at relatives. It is wished you managed to accomplish all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment never sleeps, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. A slew of thrilling developments came out during the break, and if you overlooked a few, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (In 2027)

Without a doubt the most surprising announcement, the much-discussed controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to halt the series' continuation. Season 3 will be back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they might as well have labeled it season 4. More surprisingly, animation studio J.C. Staff will continue to be leading the project. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the start, which might be a good sign. However, the main art for the second cour is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This makes me think that, by now, they are probably mocking the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a reputation for being an prestigious animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the high caliber of its work but for the fair treatment of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had never worked on an anime stemming from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved massive popularity when it launched in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a extended pause due to the author's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series demonstrated it maintained the fans' affection and goodwill, and now fans are overjoyed about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Its Sixth Season Is Getting a Follow-Up In Production

Kingdom is the best-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English translation, but the anime has been running for years, and its sixth season was a further stellar entry. As it happens that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in development, and it will probably premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

One more studio famous for the artistic merit of its work, Science Saru has brought us critically acclaimed works of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and intriguing visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my list of anticipated shows.

Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Second Season

Immediately following the airing of episode 24, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be getting a sequel. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific release date has not been disclosed yet.
